Dub Apocalypse At The Lucky Dog

From their Facebook: "Dub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston,MA.The lineup includes Tommy Benedetti(drums),Timo Shanko(Sax/Bass),Johnny Trama(gtr),Van Martin(gtr) and Aaron Bellamy(bass)."

Tommy Benedetti is also one of the founding members of seminal reggae band John Brown's Body.

I had the pleasure of seeing them perform at The Lucky Dog, which now has a very nice stage area and is pulling in all types of acts.

Dub Apocalypse played 2 incredible long sets comprised of both originals and fantastic jams or renditions of other classic artists, such as The Skatalites, Augustus Pablo, and The Roots Radics. Of particular interest was King Tubby Meets The Rockers Uptown, an iconic dub track, and Slice of the Cake, an early Dancehall number that is seldom heard live.

The band's originals and improvisations were absolutely killer as well, with the guitarist in particular coming off as Trey Anastasio on his best day. The bassist had such energy, and held the groove down in parfect harmony with the drummer.

Check out some footage of the night:
