1. Sex Cross demo tape

SEX CROSS... the vocals have the perfect attitude, the drums snap with a simple and fitting style, and the guitars and production offer just the right atmosphere. This could have come straight out of the 80s. If you're into Bauhaus and have been looking for something new, you owe it to yourself to check this out.

Honorable Mentions:

Flosstradamus - Lethal Weapon EP
Shackleton - Music For The Quite Hour/The Drawbar Organ EPs

You'll notice these are both electronic music releases, and that my lists are almost shunning the genre entirely. 2012 was a huge year for electronic music, one that has seen a mainstream resurgence like no other in the past 5+ years. I believe the truly innovative, groundbreaking music is yet to come, by the next year or so, from younger DJs raising the bar. So-called 'progressive' house is not really appropriately titled in my opinion. It should be called simply, 'House.' I won't go into reviewing selections from every modern subgenre, but there was so much more out there in the 90s & early 2000s. I bet if we look back just before those glory days, there was a resurgence of regular electro in the mainstream introducing people to Dj'ing who would later go on to make the most interesting music... artists like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Fischerspooner, Atari Teenage Riot, PvD, Skream and so on.
